Green Industry Committee

Chair: Kay Havens, Chicago Botanic Garden

The overarching goal of the Green Industry Committee is to develop an effective partnership between ecologists, invasive plant biologists and green industry professionals to implement activities that will minimize invasion of landscape plants into native plant communities in the Midwest (MN, WI, IA, IL, IN, OH, MO, MI).

Our objectives include:

1. The development of defensible criteria to list a plant as “invasive.”
2. The development of invasive plant lists for the Midwest and suggested alternative plants for landscape use. 
3. Distribution of lists and associated education materials to green industry professionals, including “big box” stores, to allow them to phase out production and use of invasive plants.
